Five Fun Backyard Activities For Kids
As the weather is starting to get warmer and sunnier, we tend to want to spend more time outdoors. However, since COVID-19 is still a pressing issue, there aren’t as many outdoor activities that we can do apart from our own homes. With that being said, we have decided to come up with a list of five fun outdoor activities that you and your kids can enjoy right from the comfort of your very own backyard! These activities take little to no preparation on your end and are sure to keep your kids entertained for hours at a time. Not only are these activities fun for kids, but they can be enjoyed by the whole family as well!
So, here are five fun backyard activities that you can do with your kids:
Plant a Family Garden
Gardening is a fun way to get outside and enjoy the nature in your backyard. You and your kids can decide what you want to plant together. You could even decide to start your own food garden by growing some fruits and vegetables. Gardening can become a weekly activity that your kids can look forward to doing with you, and after some time they will start to see the fruits of their labour.
Play with a Sprinkler/Slip 'N Slide
As the summer weather rolls in, it becomes the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors and engage in some water activities. Some great water activities that are fun to do in the backyard are to play with a Slip 'N Slide or a sprinkler. Slip 'N Slides will definitely make for a fun time outside as your kids will have fun slipping, sliding in the water, and just running around the backyard. If you don’t own a Slip 'N Slide, another fun water activity is to set up your lawn sprinkler. Your kids can have fun cooling off by jumping over the sprinkler, trying to outrun the sprinkler and not get wet, and many more imaginative ideas they come up with. Whether it is a slip n’ slide or a sprinkler, your kids will have a blast cooling off in the backyard.
Backyard camping is another fun activity that will be sure to create lasting memories for the whole family. As of right now, National Parks are still prohibiting camping due to COVID-19, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some of the benefits of camping while at home. Set up your own campground in your very own backyard! Pitch a tent, set up a backyard firepit (if you have one), get some sleeping bags, and get ready to have a fun night outdoors together as a family.
Have a Picnic
Another fun and easy activity to do with your kids outside is to have a picnic in your backyard. You can set up your picnic spot with a blanket and maybe some pillows too. You can even have your kids help you prepare the picnic lunch and decide on what snacks to eat at the picnic. This is a simple activity that gives you an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, but also bond with your kids as well.
Nature Scavenger Hunt
If you have younger kids at home, you can have them explore the backyard through a fun nature scavenger hunt. You can create your own scavenger hunt list or print a free one online, like this one. Your little ones can spend some time searching for the items and have fun discovering new things and learning about nature. There are so many more fun activities that you and your kids can enjoy doing in the backyard together, but we hope this starter list has given you some good ideas. So, we hope that you enjoy the nice upcoming weather and have fun spending time with your kids outdoors!
